Fallingwater: Celebrates its 90th Anniversary, and completion of World Heritage Preserved, a three-year comprehensive preservation project. With this work completed, the scaffolding and enclosures that previously covered the house have all been removed. 

Fallingwater was designed in 1935 by renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) for the Kaufmann family, owners of Pittsburgh’s largest department store. Wright’s Fallingwater is one of his most widely acclaimed works and best exemplifies his philosophy of organic architecture: the harmonious union of art and nature. Wright designed Fallingwater to rise above the waterfall over which it is built. Local craftsmen quarried native sandstone and other materials from the property and completed the construction of the main house, guest house and service wing in 1939. 

Fallingwater is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, one of three cultural World Heritage sites in Pennsylvania and the only one in Western Pennsylvania, and is designated a National Historic Landmark and a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure.

In addition to tours, visitors can learn more about Fallingwater’s history and collections through the continuation of the popular 2025 exhibition at the Speyer Gallery, which is located in the Visitor Center. “The Kaufmann Films: A Legacy in Motion” offers visitors a rare opportunity to see the masons laying the first stones of Fallingwater through seldom-seen film footage captured by the Kaufmanns.

Flight 93 Memorial: Flight 93 National Memorial is a place to learn about the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93 whose actions thwarted four hijackers' plans to fly their plane to a target in Washington, DC during the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. 

The Visitor Center features a permanent exhibition that focuses on the Flight 93 story within the context of the larger terrorist attack. Experience a self-guided tour around artifacts, multi-media, and interactive exhibits that begin early on the morning of September 11, 2001. The exhibits recount the story of the passengers and crew members and describes the response and investigation following the crash. 

The Memorial Plaza extends one-quarter-mile alongside the area where Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. This walkway allows visitors to walk beside the hallowed landscape: crash site, debris field, and ultimately, the final resting place of the 40 passengers and crew. 

The Tower of Voices serves as both a visual and audible reminder of the heroism of the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93.The tower is conceived as a monumental, ninety-three-feet-tall musical instrument holding 40 wind chimes, representing the 40 passengers and crew members. 

Lunch: 

Lunch will be a boxed lunch consisting of a sandwich, chips, fruit, cookie and a drink. Sandwich options will be emailed closer to the trip.
 

Accessibility at Fallingwater: 

Shuttle service to and from the house is available from the Visitors Center to the house and back for visitors with mobility challenges.

Fallingwater’s guided tours and self-guided experiences involve one mile of walking on gravel paths that include both uphill and downhill terrain. We recommend visitors wear closed-toe shoes with a rubber non-slip sole that provides both comfort and support.

Non-motorized wheelchairs or motorized wheelchairs may be used on the gravel paths on the site; however, certain models of wheelchairs may have difficulty moving on our paths. A wheelchair with wide tires that is well-suited for our gravel paths is available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to reserve this wheelchair in advance of your visit, please contact the Visitor Services office at 724-329-8501.

Touring the house’s multiple levels requires climbing over 100 steps. For visitors unable to climb the stairs to the upper levels of the house, an accessibility tour is recommended for visitors with mobility and stamina limitations.  It’s a great option for visitors who are wheelchair users or who have difficulty walking, standing, and/or climbing steps during a one-hour tour.  The accessibility tour includes a guided tour of Fallingwater’s first floor, followed by a personalized, and guided tour of images of the upper floors and guest house.
