Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania

Conrail Days

Tuesday, April 14, 2026
9-11 am

Join us as the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania commemorates 50 years of Conrail during Conrail Days on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.

Conrail launched on April 1, 1976, stepping in to rebuild the bankrupt northeastern freight rail network. The railroad operated through the heavily populated northeast and served many of the nation’s largest cities, from New York and Philadelphia to Chicago.  Its legacy endures in the infrastructure it rescued, the industries it reconnected and the passionate railfan community it inspired.

Special presentations for Conrail Days are set to include:
The Conrail Historical Society business meeting, Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

Remarks by Conrail CEO Brian Gorton and The Conrail Historical Society President Brock Kerchner, Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

“I Carried a Camera at Work” by Larry DeYoung, Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

“The Heart of Conrail” by Doug Lilly, Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

“Modeling Conrail” by Ed Kapuscinski, Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

“Office Car Special” by Wes Reminder, Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

A number of the Museum’s historic engines and railroad cars will be open to explore.  Various exhibits and artifacts from The Conrail Historical Society’s archives also will be on display throughout the weekend. The Capital PenNScalers and the Lebanon Valley Rail groups will have operating model train layouts and artist Peter Lerro will be on hand to show and sell his work.

Museum visitors also will enjoy the Pennsylvania Middle Division operating HO scale layout and the “Seeing Double: Pennsylvania’s Industrial Revolution in 3D” exhibit in the second floor gallery.  Conrail Days activities are included in the regular Museum admission.  Tickets for Conrail Days may be purchased online in advance through the Museum website or at the door.
