Revolutionary Things Spring Lecture Series

"Moving Pictures: Preserving Painted Silk from the Revolutionary War and Beyond" Nancy Pollak, Principal, Art Care Associates

Join us as we discuss original documents and artifacts and what they review about Pennsylvania and the American Revolution. The 45-minute presentations will take place near the changing exhibit gallery on Floor 1. Museum admission is free for guests registered for the lectures. 

The State Museum cares for many flags, banners, and other textiles made of silk and bearing painted lettering and images. Professional conservator Nancy Pollak will discuss the materials and methods that were used to create this type of artifact and how these now fragile objects are preserved for future generations. 

Nancy Pollak is a 1991 MS Graduate of the Winterthur / University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation where she majored in painting conservation with a special emphasis in painted textiles. In 1996 sheestablishedher private conservation practice, Art Care Associates, in Maryland. Prior to that, Pollak worked as Assistant Conservator at the Williamstown Art Conservation Center, MA.She specializes in the examination and treatment of painted textiles and traditional paintings and frequently speaks onpaintedtextiles and their unique conservation needs.
